The Beef Burger was Poor at best ..with a basic frozen beef patties.. more lettuce than anything else..less than 10 chips for $22.. Sadly Double D was closed..as they have the Most Amazing Hawaiian burger for much less money and Super filling and Tasty..includes a homemade Juicy thick Angus beef pattie.

It’s not every day you come across someone who quietly redefines what “great service” can feel like—and that’s exactly what made this experience so memorable. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this employee had a natural ability to connect with people. What stood out most wasn’t just their friendliness, but their willingness to pause, engage, and genuinely be present with us. In a world where everything often feels rushed and transactional, they chose to slow things down and have real conversations—and that made all the difference. Some might say they were “slacking off,” but honestly, it felt more like they were prioritizing what truly matters: human connection. They didn’t just serve us; they saw us. They took the time to chat, laugh, and create a relaxed atmosphere that made the entire experience feel personal rather than routine. It turned what could have been an ordinary interaction into something genuinely uplifting. Their approach reminded us that great service isn’t just about efficiency—it’s about energy, warmth, and making people feel valued. The way they balanced their responsibilities while still making time for meaningful interaction showed emotional intelligence and confidence. It never felt neglectful; instead, it felt intentional, like they understood that a positive experience goes beyond just completing tasks. By the end of our visit, we left not only satisfied but in a better mood than when we arrived. That kind of impact is rare, and it speaks volumes about the employee’s character. If anything, their willingness to “pause” and connect is something more workplaces could benefit from. In short, what might look like slacking on the surface was actually a refreshing reminder that people-first service creates lasting impressions—and this employee absolutely nailed it.

Matamata is truly blest with any number of very good cafes The Rich Cafe would be at the top of this list . Great coffee great service great food homely relaxing atmosphere .what more would you ask for . They seem to regularly have several reserved tables which indicates to me loyalty from maybe some midweek small social groups. That is a good sign I would suggest. See you next week for my toasted sandwich and coffee

Beef sliders were good and tasty, and Chip was crispy ( how chips should be). Ice latte, coffee is strong enough to cover the sweetest of ice cream. Newly added : Dory meal, the fish was fresh, not cardboard thin and dry. Salad was good , with the chef mixed dressing.
