The Cafe is at the entrance of the garden, right next to what looks like a small lake, the setting is very comfortable - has inside seats and seats by the water.
The food is good, but nothing too exciting or special.
The service is friendly and efficient.

Visited Friday 17th July approx 1pm. We ordered toasted granola and gluten free eggs benedict. The toasted granola was served in a large glass bottle (never ever happened to me). The taste of the granola was pathetic. It had a strong stale smell and taste. It tasted like it was stored for ages in that very air tight glass bottle and the staff didn't even bother to get it out and serve in plate but just shoved in some yoghurt with some milk as a side. The muffin in the eggs benny was so dense, crumbly and cold. The eggs were overcooked and the yolk had solidified. The sauce lacked taste. You guys have a much higher responsibility to deliver better food quality knowing the gardens attract international visitors and not just NZers. Very disappointing. It spoiled our day.

We visited today and had a bit of a mixed experience. The staff were really friendly and the location is lovely — especially if you can get a seat outside, as the views are great.
Unfortunately the service and food didn’t quite live up to the setting. Our coffee took quite a while to arrive and was only lukewarm when it did. We ordered two meals and they came out about 10 minutes apart, with the second only arriving after we followed up. The cabinet salad was also extremely oily, which made it hard to enjoy.
It’s a beautiful spot and the team seemed genuinely nice, but based on today’s experience we probably wouldn’t return for food. It’s also worth noting that the vegan options were quite limited.
Hopefully this was just an off day, as the location really does have a lot going for it.

Very pretty setting sitting on the verandah as per photo. Cheese scone nice but strange, runny tomato sauce/chutney served with it. Coffee good - though I had a long wait for it, & had finished my scone before the coffee arrived. No 'vibe' at such a pretty place & never has been in all the years I've visited. Cafe needs updating inside & to get rid of the 'old food smell' where all the tables with black tablecloths are inside on way to the restrooms ... & would be nice if serving staff were happier in their work. Guess its coz there's nowhere else to get coffee etc in the gardens.
